The ornithologist provides some useful information about birds and how they could kill all of humankind if they set their birdbrains to it. But, she's not really a guide or mentor; she's wrong about the main point, after all. She thinks birds are just beautiful and peaceful.

The truth is, there's no real font of wisdom in the film—no wise scientist to explain what's going on, no one to explain how you beat the feathers off those crows. Lots of people ask, "What is up with these birds?" but no one answers. If there's someone in the film with all of the answers, it's Hitchcock himself, and he's keeping his beak shut.
