Character Role Analysis
Andrew and Allison, Claire and Bender
Four out of the five Breakfast Club members pair off romantically at the end of the movie, leaving Brian Johnson to function as their fifth wheel, as it were. Andrew, the athlete, winds up with Allison, the "basket case." They've had a little chemistry throughout the movie—but first, Allison needs to change her whole look.
She goes from wearing black eyeliner and bangs that partly hide her face to having a clean-cut look with a bow in her hair. Andrew is won over—and a lot of critics strenuously objected, since it implies Allison needed to give up her unique style to win over this wrestler dude.
Claire and Bender exchange barbs throughout the entirety of the movie, until Claire sneaks out of the library and joins Bender in the closet where Vernon wants him to stay. After a movie's worth of harassment, Claire finally gives into Bender's apparent charms. They make out, and Claire gives Bender one of her diamond earrings, which he puts on.
Of course, part of Bender's case for being her boyfriend involves getting back at Claire's parents:
BENDER: Remember how you said your parents use you to get back at each other? Wouldn't I be outstanding in that capacity?
So, who knows if this can be the lasting basis for a relationship or not.
