The main character of The Egypt Game is April, an eleven-year-old girl who moves to a college town to live with her grandmother. April is the spark that gets the Egypt Game going: it's through her interest in ancient Egypt and sheer imagination that she, Melanie, and Marshall embark on their adventure.

She's also the one who comes into contact with the child murderer, and is able to put him behind bars after being attacked. If imaginative leadership and a brush with death aren't enough to give her protagonist status, we don't know what is.
