Count Laszlo de Almásy (Ralph Fiennes)’s Timeline and Summary

Here is Almásy's story in chronological order.
He meets Katharine Clifton in the desert and begins to fall for her when she reads Herodotus.
Katharine accompanies Almásy to the Cave of Swimmers.
After leaving the cave, the two are caught in a sandstorm and spend the night together in the jeep.
The next day, Katharine goes to Almásy's hotel room, and the two begin their torrid love affair.
When Katharine breaks it off, Almásy goes mad with jealousy.
While surveying the desert one last time before war breaks out, Katharine's husband, Geoffrey, tries to kill Almásy by crashing his plane into him.
Almásy escapes, but Katharine is in the plane, injured.
Almásy leaves her in the Cave of Swimmers and walks through the desert for help.
However, he has no identifying papers, and because of his name—Laszlo de Almásy—the English think he is German and arrest him.
Almásy escapes, trades secret maps to the Germans for passage back into Egypt, and retrieves Katharine's body.
But he's shot down and burned.
Hana moves his body to a monastery where Almásy slowly shares his story.
Once his story is revealed, he has Hana give him an overdose of morphine.
When Hana reads to Almásy Katharine's last words, which she wrote while in the cave, Almásy dies.
