• The Golem is created, but her master dies on the way to New York City.
• She meets Rabbi Avram Meyer, who helps her learn the city, names her Chava, and find a job at the Radzin's baker and an apartment.
• Later, the Golem finds the Rabbi dead of a heart attack. He has on him COMMANDS FOR THE GOLEM , including instructions to destroy her. She keeps them, and puts the paper in a locket around her neck.
• She meets the Jinni one night, and the two agree to take weekly walks and get to know each other; they start to become friends.
• When Anna, the Golem's friend from the bakery, invites her dancing, she goes, bringing the Jinni with her; they totally burn up the dance floor.
• Anna's deadbeat boyfriend, Irving, beats her, and the Golem defends Anna, almost killing Irving in the process.
• The Jinni carries the Golem away. He finds the instructions to destroy her and takes them away.
• Good thing, too, because she is wracked with guilt when she wakes, and wants to destroy herself. Instead, she proposes marriage to Michael, the Rabbi's nephew, and he agrees.
• Their marriage isn't that exciting, and eventually Michael finds out that his wife is a Golem and he freaks out.
• Michael is killed by Schaalman, the evil wizard, and the Golem feels guilty about that, too.
• When she finds out that the Jinni is going to kill himself, she rescues him, and the two decide to take out Schaalman together.
• Schaalman ends up binding himself to the Golem as her master, which she agrees to, in exchange for Anna's life.
• The ice cream maker Mahmoud Saleh intervenes and takes the flask from the Golem, who attacks him. Before he dies, he manages to put the wizard into the Jinni's flask.
• The Golem continues living in New York, going for walks with Anna and trying to get over her guilt while she waits for the Jinni to return from his journey to the Syrian Desert.
