Prince Fabrizio Timeline and Summary

Prince Fabrizio walks through his garden and remembers the time his gardener found a dead soldier in it.
Fabrizio comes to dinner in a foul mood. His wife tries to comfort him, but he decides to shake her off and go see his mistress. He practically announces it to the whole table.
Fabrizio chats with Father Pirrone about how the invading Italian armies will soon conquer Sicily. That'll be the end of Fabrizio's royal status.
Fabrizio's family goes to its estate in a town called Donnafugata. While there, Fabrizio gets offered a job in the new united Italian government. He refuses on the basis that he has had his day and that it's time for new generations to have a shot at power. That, plus he's too cynical and jaded to care about anything anymore.
Fabrizio and his family go to a local ball. Fabrizio realizes that he's getting old. He looks out at the stars and wishes that he could touch Venus, whom he imagines as being a beautiful young woman.
Sixteen years after the unification of Italy, Fabrizio lies on his deathbed and feels like he's ready to leave the world of the living. As he passes away, he sees an angelic Venus standing at the edge of his bed. He realizes that death might give him some peace.
