Protagonist
Character Role Analysis
Mannie
Mannie is the protagonist because he checks all the boxes on the protagonist to-do list. He's the character whose life we get the most access to—he is the one telling the story after all—and we understand his feelings and struggles better than we do any other character's as a result. He is in conflict with the antagonist, and we're most concerned with his success since the lunar revolution's ultimate triumph is put on his shoulders by the novel's end.
Check, check, and check. Yep, Mannie is officially a card-carrying member of the protagonist club.
