Ned McCaslin Timeline and Summary

Ned is angry that he is technically heir to Grandfather Priest's fortune but cannot claim any of it because he is black.
Ned obtains information from Lucius about where he and Boon will be headed with the car.
Need stows away in the back of the Winton Flyer and reveals himself only after it is too late to turn around.
Upon Boon and Lucius's arrival at the Memphis brothel, Ned sneaks the car off and trades it for a stolen racehorse.
Ned convinces everyone to race the horse in an effort to win money to buy the car back.
Ned teaches Lucius to ride as jockey and trains the horse in the same way that he trained mules back on Grandfather's property.
Ned is arrested, along with Boon and the horse, but is freed when Miss Corrie submits to Butch's advances.
Ned feeds Lightning sardines, his special trick, and the horse wins the race.
Ned convinces Grandfather to bet on Lightning. However, he intentionally does not feed Lightning sardines before this race, and Lightning loses.
