Science Fiction; Young Adult Lit
The aliens who communicate by bubbles were our first clue. One thing's for sure: this novel is textbook science fiction. Don't believe us? Let's do some free association. What comes to mind when you think about science fiction? Aliens? Spaceships? Clones? UFOs? Well, all of those things are in The True Meaning of Smekday. In fact, the whole plot centers around figuring out how to get these unwelcome aliens to leave earth for good.
In the process, our main girl Tip seriously rises to the occasion. So while she might only be eleven, she's a darn mature eleven, making this book definitely a good fit for young adult audiences. With all of the comics and ordinary kid language (alien references aside, of course), this one's been written to be devoured by young teen readers.
