Sir Luke Strett Timeline and Summary

Sir Luke first shows up when Milly comes to visit him. He doesn't have much time, so he asks her to come back the next day.
After they've met, Sir Luke tells Milly that her illness isn't a question of life or death. Life, he says, is something Milly can choose. In other words, it's completely in Milly's power to choose whether she wants to live or not; she just can't control for how long.
Taking Sir Luke's advice, Milly takes a trip to Italy and sees all kinds of beautiful things. Further, Sir Luke suggests that the best medicine for Milly is to fall in love, since no one should die without having been in love.
At the end of the book, Sir Luke returns to Italy one last time to care for Milly while she dies.
