Exactly how steamy is this story?

The World According to Garp is a difficult book. Not because of the language, or the structure, or anything like that, though—this book is difficult because it tackles a host of subjects that most of us would rather not think about, specifically violence and rape. There are really only a few chapters that get truly rough, so it's not like the longest and most depressing slog ever. But in those moments, Irving stares ugliness right in the eye, and when he does, well, leave the kids at home.
