Character Analysis
Gabby is Sal and Billy's babysitter. And she's a pretty great one, too. When Sal is going bonkers because her parents have left, Gabby knows just how to calm her down, and when Billy is frustrated that they might not make it to his favorite restaurant, she makes sure that the plan works out. This girl has babysitting in the bag.
One thing that makes Gabby an extra awesome babysitter is that she's a great listener. So when Billy is telling her and Sal about the Year of the Dragon, you can tell she's paying close attention. And she knows how to get Sal included in the fun:
Gabby clapped her hands. "Okay, everyone get a big spoonful of ice cream. On the count of three we'll eat them. Then make a dragon face and roar—softly. And we'll have a good year." (3.2.25)
This babysitter knows how to make dinner a special occasion. She makes sure both Billy and Sal are included, and we wouldn't be surprised if she also had the Drop Sisters roaring. Plus, Gabby is extra positive. When she says everyone is going to have a good year, we're ready to hop on board and roar, too.
