Trim

Trim is Toby's companion, but he's still worth talking about in this role (Toby is a good candidate for protagonist, at least for the last part of the novel). Trim's one faithful son of a gun. He supports Toby's wildest schemes, even planting the whole idea of building models in the first place. But at the end, Trim turns out to be the one who punctures Toby's illusions. By telling Toby that Mrs. Wadman wants to find out if Toby's penis still works, Trim destroys Toby's innocence—and, incidentally, helps bring the novel to an end. Hey, he's not perfect,
