Character Analysis
Cranick is the man who stows away on the Seahawk in order to seek revenge on Captain Jaggery. He has only one arm since, on the Seahawk's last voyage, Captain Jaggery beat his arm off (4.51). Cranick is unsuccessful in the mutiny plot and dies by Captain Jaggery's hand (he shoots Cranick in the chest). Mr. Cranick's body is thrown overboard by Jaggery without a proper burial. This all makes us think that the kind of revenge attempted by Cranick is being questioned, rather than endorsed, by the novel.
