In terms of sex, True Grit is strictly G-rated. What is notable though is that in the final pages of the novel Mattie reveals that she's probably never had it. She makes it pretty clear she's never been married and doesn't date. Here's something to chew on: maybe losing her dad when she was fourteen—you know, just when most girls are starting to get puberty over with and move on from boy bands to rock stars—did something to Mattie's sexual development. What we're saying is, maybe an arm isn't the only thing she lost.
