Film
Unforgiven came out in 1992, when digital was in its infancy. The film was shot entirely on, well, film, mostly in Alberta, Canada.
Eastwood & Co. built "Big Whiskey" pretty much where the city is supposed to be in the film: in the middle of nowhere. The filming location was sixty miles from the nearest major city.
Not only that, but Eastwood was adamant that his characters lived like people did in the Old West. Motor vehicles were forbidden (this was to avoid tire tracks on the set), and the cast was forced to ride in horse-drawn carriages and whatnot.
Everything about this film is authentic: the sets, the look, and even the ethical questions that are foregrounded.
