It has dramatic bridges, steep and winding streets (acrophobic Scottie lives near the steepest of all), it's loaded with history, and it's surrounded by dramatic natural landscapes. The Mission San Juan Bautista, evoking themes of death and the past, is the setting of the film's two pivotal scenes.
