What's Up With the Title?
Note that Vertigo is the name for Scottie's symptom, not his disease. The latter is "acrophobia," but imagine a film with that for its title. (Sounds too much like "arachnophobia"—and eek). It would be less seductive, somehow—and less well suited for a film that's so much about seduction and its effects. Vertigo is that dizzy state that Scottie feels when he fears falling. It's what he suffers from throughout the film. It's also one sign of what "falling" in love can cause: a dizzying loss of orientation. Tommy Roe totally must have seen this movie.
