This just in: war sucks.
Although War Horse doesn't have the graphic violence of All Quiet on the Western Front or Saving Private Ryan, it's still pretty brutal. People die. Horses die. Stuff blows up. It's intense.
Were it not for the war, Joey would have a peaceful life on a farm. That would be great, but hardly a dramatic, compelling story. The war pulls Joey across countries and allows us to see a variety of different perspectives from both sides of the battlefield. In this strange way, war, which usually tears people apart, also brings people (and horses) together.
