Symbol Analysis
Some brave folks don’t balk at a new situation, but continue on and face it. In line 14, she acknowledges that sometimes those that run out into the dark might accidentally run smack into a tree. Here, the tree is a symbol of an obstacle, one that might cause harm (after all, they do have sharp branches sometimes). It could’ve just as easily been a pothole, or a pit of quicksand, or a snake. What matters is that the brave who face the darkness know that these obstacles exist, and they face them anyways. (Let’s just hope they pack a Band-Aid or two.)
