Character Role Analysis

Cadence might never have realized the messed-up-ness of her family if it weren't for Gat. He opens her eyes to a world she never knew existed by telling her about volunteering to build toilets for people in India and giving her books by deep thinkers like Sartre. Most importantly, he lays it on the line for her about just how evil her grandfather is. Would Cadence have learned the word "patriarchy" if it weren't for Gat? Probably, but she wouldn't have realized the extent to which it wrecks people's lives—and she probably wouldn't have known she was living it.
