Babette

It's really awww-inducing that, at his age, Jack is still really in love with his fourth wife, Babette. The book shows us quite a few scenes of intimacy between them. They like to cuddle each other and talk about how they don't want each other to ever die. That's sweet.

But what isn't so sweet is the fact that Babette is a pill-popper who's trading sex for drugs. Along with Jacks' exposure to toxic gas, Babette's infidelity is what drives Jack to track down Babette's other man and attempt to murder him. When it comes to romance, Jack's relationship with Babette shows us that he's totally capable of getting violently jealous when it comes to other men in Babette's life.
