Grandpa Martin Vanderhof (Lionel Barrymore)’s Timeline and Summary

Grandpa works in an office. Thirty-five years before the film, he quits and decides to do things that make him happy.
His wife dies sometime before his grandchildren are born.
Mr. Blakely tries to buy his house for a munitions manufacturer, but he refuses.
Grandpa's granddaughter Alice wants to marry Tony Kirby, the son of famous banker Mr. Kirby.
Mr. Kirby comes over for dinner, and there are various disasters (including explosions) and everyone is arrested.
It turns out Mr. Kirby is the one trying to buy the house.
Alice and Tony have a falling out because the Kirbys don't approve of Alice. Alice leaves town.
Grandpa decides to sell the house to move out where Alice is living.
Mr. Kirby buys it, but then has a change of heart. He tells Alice and Tony they can marry.
Mr. Kirby gives the house back to Grandpa.
