apr 20 Learn More Curies Isolate Radium


Husband and wife science studs Pierre and Marie Curie isolated radium on this day in 1902. They were awarded the Nobel Prize for their discovery, making Marie the first woman to ever win one. In 1910, Marie isolated metallic radium (on her own this time, Pierre having died in a tragic accident in 1906) and she was once again awarded the Nobel Prize, making her the first person—man or woman—to win two.
