The United States invaded Guadalcanal on this day in 1942. This World War II campaign was called Operation Watchtower, and the Allied victory there officially forced Japan to play defense in the Pacific. The battle also featured some familiar faces, including B-movie maestro Ed Wood and Don Adams, a.k.a. Get Smart's clumsy Agent 86.
