On this day in 1789, the Electoral College unanimously selected George Washington as President of the United States. His salary was 2% of the country's budget. That's a lot of coin. To put that in perspective, the 2010 federal budget was $3.5 trillion. Which would have made the prez's salary a cool $70 million.
