feb 16 Learn More Fidel Castro Becomes Prime Minister of Cuba
Fidel Castro became the Prime Minister of Cuba on this day in 1959. The head of Cuban Secret Service claims that Castro survived more than 600 assassination attempts during his tenure as Cuba's HBIC (Head Beard in Charge), including exploding and contaminated cigars, poisoned milkshakes, and LSD. Actually, that last one wasn't supposed to kill Castro; it was just supposed to send him on a super-bad trip before a live radio interview. The thought was that when the Cuban public heard it, they'd think he'd gone loco and lose confidence in him.
