President Franklin D. Roosevelt was born on this day in 1882. If you're the kind of holly jolly person that lives for the Christmas season, you might want to send him a thank-you note. (Not literally. Dude's been dead for almost a century.) In 1939, President Roosevelt bumped up Thanksgiving from the last Thursday in November to the second-to-last Thursday, thus adding a week to the yuletide season. That's not why he did it, though; he made the move to give struggling merchants a bonus week to earn some holiday bank.
