Legendary thoroughbred Secretariat won the Triple Crown on this day in 1973, setting records in all three events: the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes, and the Belmont Stakes. Would it be fair to say that the racehorse had the heart of a champion? Actually, no. It was more like he had the heart of two champions—as in Secretariat had a super-sized, twenty-two pound heart, which was more than double the size of your average thoroughbred's heart. Wonder how his jockey felt about that.
