Thurgood Marshall was appointed to the Supreme Court of the United States on this day in 1967, making him the first African American justice. Prior to his appointment, Marshall was best known for his victory as a prosecutor in Brown v. Board of Education, which upended the idea of "separate but equal" and paved the way for integration. But we'll always remember him as the biggest Days of Our Lives fan ever to sit on the highest court in the land. Marshall reportedly took an hour break each day to catch up on the soapy drama in Salem.
