"I Love Rock 'n' Roll" by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts hit #1 on the pop chart on this day in 1982 and went on to sell over one million copies. Not bad for a cover song. British rock band Arrows actually wrote and recorded the song first in 1975. Jett caught them performing it on TV while she was touring England in 1976 with The Runaways, and the rest is rock 'n' roll history. Pop princess Britney Spears also covered the song, in 2002, telling the Harrisburg Patriot-News that she loves Pat Benatar and "just [thinks] she's amazing" (source). Oops, she did it again.
