Environmentalist and former vice-president Al Gore was born on this day in 1948. While Gore takes a lot of ribbing for claiming he "invented" the internet—a claim he never actually made…ish—it's worth noting that he was instrumental in getting that computer you're currently looking at into your hot little hands. The Supercomputer Network Act of '86? Gore wrote it. The Information Infrastructure and Technology Act of '92? Gore got it passed. In short, Gore was thinking about the internet long before most politicians knew the difference between a URL and LOL.
