Transcript
- 00:03
A little birdie told us you wanted to shmoop a math problem...
- 00:08
Which number is largest? And here are the potential answers...
- 00:15
OK, this question is just asking whether or not we have mastered The Number Line.
- 00:19
The answer is going to be somewhere in the "7"s area ...around here...so this is where it's gonna live.
- 00:25
To get the answer, we just zip through the choices one by one.

- 00:29
First we have the absolute value of negative 7, which is just... 7.
- 00:33
7 and 3/8 -- ok, so we need to decimalize and we divide 8 into 3.
- 00:40
So three divided by 8 is 0.375... so 7.375. So it lives here.
- 00:49
7.5 is already decimalized for us. Woot. It lives here.
- 00:53
OK, now we have 7 and 1/12 -- well... just looking at this number, we don't need to
- 00:59
go through the hassle of doing the math.
- 01:01
We know 1/12 is less than 1/8, which we just did, and this one will be even smaller...
- 01:06
...so let's just punt it.
- 01:08
And lastly, we have 4/9 -- well... we know 4/8 is one-half, right?
- 01:13
But here we have 4/9, so we know it'll be LESS than a half...
- 01:17
or smaller than the 7.5 number here.
- 01:20
We don't have to blast out the math here either.
- 01:22
The largest is 7.5... and the answer is C.
- 01:25
As in, "Chewbacca's feeling left out."
