Pbs public transportation safety ah la shmoop all right check

00:04

out this guy he's never taken a bus in his

00:07

life but he's got to get to school somehow If

00:09

figures it can't be too tricky to understand After all

00:12

he's only going twenty blocks he doesn't bother to plan

00:15

his route because hey it's practically a straight shot right

00:17

He'll be there in fifteen minutes Or maybe not He

00:21

misses a few stops Makes a couple of wrong connections

00:23

And who's he's in cairo were is lovely this time

00:26

of year All that sand all those camels elle's greatest

00:29

cairo is our friend here isn't keen on sticking around

00:32

He decides to wait for the next bus from cairo

00:34

to san diego Unfortunately everybody here well he chooses to

00:37

wait in this area of the bus stop and yet

00:39

sketchy unlit practically deserted area practically deserted except for these

00:45

upstanding fellows now which looks painful So now without his

00:48

iphone and possibly without a kidney our friend boards his

00:51

bus He puts his backpack down next to him on

00:53

the seat And yeah that shouldn't have been a surprising

00:55

anyone Our poor friend gets off the bus at his

00:58

house with nothing but his shirt on his Wow Yeah

01:00

this guy is having a really bad day but hey

01:04

what is his bad day have to do with you

01:06

Okay Hang with us in two thousand thirteen Yeah Ancient

01:09

history We know americans took a whopping ten point seven

01:12

billion trips on public transportation Most rides on public transport

01:16

are completely safe No reason to worry at all But

01:19

out of ten point seven billion trips Well something's gotta

01:22

go wrong Maybe there's a thief on board Maybe you're

01:25

a nfa milieu with your surroundings May someone didn't shower

01:28

So what can we do Well let's check in with

01:30

our weary but wiser friend over here He's still got

01:33

to get to school so he boards the bus the

01:35

next morning This time though he's planned out his route

01:38

carefully You knows where his transfer is and what stopped

01:41

to get off that and well so far so good

01:44

On the way back our buddy waits here with the

01:46

other travelers in a well lit area of the bus

01:48

stop Better luck next time fellas He's a little wary

01:51

of traveling at night by himself So he sets as

01:53

close to the driver is he can't driver won't put

01:56

up with any nonsense on his bus so he's got

01:59

an ally just in case he keeps his backpack on

02:02

his laugh and remains alert the entire time Sleeping would

02:05

leave his possessions unguarded and he's not losing another kidney

02:09

anytime soon and just to be extra safe he talks

02:12

his iphone into his pocket flashing valuables Not the smartest

02:16

idea on public transport He gets home safe and sound

02:19

rendering the plane ticket his mom book to cairo obsolete

02:22

because even though he was smart and told her his

02:24

entire route making it easy for her to find him

02:27

if something went wrong Well mother's gonna worry and keep

02:30

in mind public transportation It's actually pretty darn safe You

02:33

might even be better off here than you would be

02:35

in a car plus it's better for the environment It's

02:38

got that whole car pooling thing this green going for

02:41

it So there you go If our hopeless buddy here

02:43

can figure out how to stay safe on public transport

02:45

well how hard can it really be although he's still 00:02:48.05 --> [endTime] having trouble shaking these guys
