About Me

Intro

I know you're probably judging me because of my size; us little guys always get picked on because of that. But being smaller doesn't mean that I don't have a huge personality. From the engineers to the English majors, all my students will tell you that Personality is my middle name. (In addition to "New" and "England," of course.)

When I was born, I was named the Springfield Division of Northeastern College, and I only offered part-time education to adult students in law, business, and accounting. All that changed when I finally became a full-blown college in 1951. I've gone way beyond my original part-time, three-major shtick.

I now have over fifty majors and over forty minors, including amazing engineering, pharmacy, and psychology programs; over seventy clubs, with new ones being founded every year; nineteen varsity sports; and about a bazillion fun programs every week. But don't worry—I haven't gotten too big for my britches.

Even though I'm in the big leagues now, I'm the homey type that keeps it small and helps you make friends fast. If you're looking for a quality education with a side of #bff, I'm the one that you want. Ooh-ooh-ooh.

Name

Golden Bears (and I don't mean Winnie the Pooh)

Hometown

I'm in the heart of Springfield, MA. Just drive all the way down State Street past about fifteen red lights and you'll find me...eventually.

Birthdate

1919

Body Type

I'm small for my age, but that also makes me pretty cute, if I do say so myself. I'm sitting pretty on 215 acres of gentle hills, surrounded by red brick buildings and trees that turn the prettiest colors in the fall. If you haven't ever seen a New England autumn...boy, are you in for a treat.

I've got about 2,700 undergraduates roaming around looking for pencils and another 1,200 graduate students who kind of have their lives together, for a grand total of around 3,900 lovely peeps. Most of my classes are under twenty-five people—not to toot my own horn or anything.

Just like seeing the same faces day to day, keeping it intimate in the class lets you make friends fast. You're welcome.

Current Living Situation

Most of my students live in one of the ten residence halls on campus. I know what you're thinking—how did I manage to cram ten residence halls onto such a teeny tiny campus? Hard work and determination, that's how. I'm 100% dedicated to keeping my students as close as possible—at least for the first year.

I have five traditional-style options (double rooms with no space to move around), but those are for the freshies only. After freshman year, your options open up. I have suite-style rooms for the sophomores, and apartment- and townhouse-style living for juniors and seniors.

You can also rent a place off-campus, if that floats your boat; there are plenty of options within walking distance.

Relationship Status

When it comes to football and lacrosse, Springfield College and I fight like an old married couple—and not a happily-married one, either. It can get ugly. I may be little, but my passion knows no limits on the field.

You should apply to me if...

you'd rather have a sensitive, caring, close-knit relationship than a macho school that doesn't care about you any more than the other 20,000 people around it...and if you're really into extracurricular activities, 'cause boy, are mine great.
