A lot of folks get their experience through family-owned auction companies, or by working their way up the ladder at an auction house. If you don't have connections, it's not the end of the world…but don't quit your day job, either. Many auctioneers break into the biz on a part time basis, until they've proved their mettle enough to go pro. Maybe a local nonprofit organization is willing to take a chant-ce on you.
Networking is one of the best ways to get into auctioneering, so start a file for business cards. There are special organizations for different kinds of auctioneers, too. Joining one in your fave area can give you a boost when it comes to employment resources.
