Common Core Standards

Grade 1

Reading RF.1.2.B

Orally produce single-syllable words by blending sounds (phonemes), including consonant blends.

In kindergarten, students were blending and segmenting phonemes, onsets, and rimes of single-syllable words. What brings this substandard up a level is that it asks first graders to produce these words while also using consonant blends (like ck, sh, th, and more).
