Source: Martin

Speaker: Jerome

Jerome's in the house! Watch your mouth!

Context

This line was spoken by Jerome (played by Martin Lawrence) in an episode of Martin, written by David Wyatt (1992-1997).

Before he was fighting crime in Miami with Will Smith in Bad Boys or time traveling to the Middle Ages in Black Knight, Martin Lawrence put his impression skills to good use and played a host of characters in the 1990s sitcom Martin. He played the protagonist, Martin, along with Martin's mother Edna, an old, portly security guard, and a secret ninja.

But one of the most memorable characters that Lawrence played was simply known as Jerome. He is from Detroit, wears flashy clothes, and rocks a gold tooth. He gets his money from a super sketchy casino, speaks in rhyme, and has his own theme song. The only words to it are "Jerome's in the house. Watch your mouth." Easy enough.

Where you've heard it

Martin was a super popular sitcom in the '90s, but if you weren't around back then, you may have heard Jerome's catchphrase in the Kanye West song "Bound 2" and wondered who the heck he is. Now you know.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

Martin was a funny, down to Earth show, so quoting this line isn't really pretentious. Make sure you're wearing at least one piece of jewelry though while you're saying it. Jerome wouldn't want it any other way.
