Character Analysis
Mr. Thabane is Florence's cousin. He accompanies Florence and Mrs. Curren when they go out to Gugulethu to search for Bheki. He has a calm, collected, but questioning way of speaking, which leads Mrs. Curren to guess correctly that he's a teacher. At times it seems like Mrs. Curren and Mr. Thabane are at odds with one another – for example, he calls her out when she wants to go home from Gugulethu because, he argues, nobody else has that luxury. He can be totally frustrating to deal with, like when he refuses to pick up John from Mrs. Curren's house.
