  • Anne is aching to laugh again, and finally she and Margot get the giggles and actually feel like teenagers.
  • Anne has another run-in with her mom where her mother misinterprets Anne’s teasing as criticism.
  • Anne muses over her parents’ marriage. She thinks that her father married her mom because she would be a good, practical wife and not because he was in love with her. Anne thinks her mom loves him more than anybody and that it’s destroying her mom not to have the love returned.
  • Anne recognizes the lack of love in her mother’s life, but still can’t feel much sympathy for her.
