Triwizard Tournament: Beauxbatons Champion
Fleur Delacour is the Beauxbatons champion in the Triwizard Tournament. She's a stunningly beautiful girl, with golden hair, large blue eyes, and a light, airy figure. It turns out that her arresting good looks are helped out a bit by her heritage: her grandmother was a veela, a magical creature that can enchant men. (We catch a glimpse of a few real veela during the Quidditch World Cup.) Lovely and talented, Fleur starts out the novel kind of stuck-up. She insults Hogwarts' decorations and location and generally wishes she were back at Beauxbatons.

But we see a really different side of Fleur during the second task, when she gets tangled up in some underwater creatures called grindylows. She can't complete the task and rescue her little sister, Gabrielle, from the merpeople. When Harry does rescue Gabrielle, even though it's not part of his task, Fleur thanks him humbly and gives him a kiss. When the scores come up and she still receives some credit for her Bubble Head charm, she replies only, "I deserved zero" (26.204). Fleur might be a little puffed up and arrogant at the start, but she means well, and she learns her lesson about false pride pretty quickly during the Triwizard Tournament.
Also, we get some hints that she's going to be around in future books. First, she ends the book by saying that she's sticking around to practice her "Eenglish" (37.65). (Ron is really happy to hear this; he's got a crush on Fleur.) But she also seems to have quite a thing for an older Weasley instead – Bill: "Harry could tell that she had no objection whatsoever to long hair or earrings with fangs on them" (31.78). So we still have to see what's going to happen with that subplot.
