House: Gryffindor, 5th Year
Quidditch: Chaser

J.K. Rowling tells us that Ginny's full name is Ginevra, not Virginia, and she definitely lives up to this awesome first name (source). She's also the first girl to be born into the Weasley family in several generations of Weasleys (source), but she doesn't let her brothers push her around. Ginny rocks the Gryffindor Quidditch team as their star Chaser, and she's also a heartthrob at Hogwarts (all the boys dig her). When Book 6 first opens, Ginny is dating Dean Thomas, a fellow Gryffindor, which makes Harry green with envy. As the book unfolds we watch as Ginny and Harry grow closer and closer, until Harry plants a big kiss on her after the championship Quidditch match. Ginny, who's had a huge crush on Harry from the moment she met him, learns how to be herself around him, and as a result, Harry is smitten.

Ginny is super smart and independent. She is often a source of advice for Harry, and she's seen her fair share of violence, adventure, and horror. In her first year at Hogwarts, she discovered Tom Riddle's diary, which we learn in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is one of Voldemort's Horcruxes. Harry saved Ginny's life in the Chamber of Secrets.

Though Harry is forced to break up with Ginny at the end of Book 6 in order to keep her safe, something tells us that they've got the real thing on their hands and that they'll be back together soon enough.
