Character Analysis
Matt's first teacher is an eejit woman who only knows how to do a few simple things, like count. At first Matt just writes her off as frustratingly dumb. But after he learns that she's an eejit, he feels very sorry for her. The Teacher is one of the first eejits we see up close, and helps us come to understand just how barbaric the eejit system is. The Teacher also helps to reveal a softer side to Tam Lin. After the Teacher is frightened and starts to cry, Tam Lin quickly goes to comfort her. It's clear from this moment that though the eejits don't have minds of their own, they do have feelings, and those feelings can be hurt.
