The people who are attacking Israel and Judah are ultimately going to fade away like a bad dream. That's what human power is when it disobeys God, basically: a vision that just dissolves. It doesn't satisfy anyone or solve anything.

For Tophet is ordained of old; yea, for the king it is prepared; he hath made it deep and large: the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of the Lord, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it. Just like Babylon will get it in the future, Assyria's getting its punishment now. Though, this passage suggests that Assyria's rise and fall had always been pre-planned, since its "burning place" had already been prepared long ago.

Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, the Lord will deliver us. Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria? Where are the gods of Hamath and Arphad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim? and have they delivered Samaria out of my hand? Who are they among all the gods of these lands, that have delivered their land out of my hand, that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand? But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king's commandment was, saying, Answer him not. (KJV 36:18-21)
The Assyrian emissary mistakes the power of God for being the same as the power of all these lesser gods. But this is just the set-up for the rude awakening the Assyrians have coming to them.
