Gospel of Mark Dreams, Hopes, and Plans Quotes

How we cite our quotes: (Chapter:Verse)

Quote #1

For there is nothing hidden, except to be disclosed; nor is anything secret, except to come to light. (NRSV 4:22)

For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad. (KJV 4:22)

Jesus envisions a future characterized by absolute transparency—i.e., no secrets. Watch out, Hollywood.

Quote #2

And he said to them, "Pay attention to what you hear; the measure you give will be the measure you get, and still more will be given you. For to those who have, more will be given; and from those who have nothing, even what they have will be taken away. (NRSV 4:24-25)

And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given. For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath. (KJV 4:24-25)

In this vision of the future, it looks like total equality. Kind of bold, huh?

Quote #3

But when the grain is ripe, at once he goes in with his sickle, because the harvest has come. (NRSV 4:29)

But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come. (KJV 4:29)

The future coming of the kingdom of God is likened to a harvest. Weeds, beware!
