Character Analysis
Laura is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stelling and becomes Tom’s "playmate" during his first term at school, before Philip arrives. Tom is fond of Laura, partly because she reminds him of his own sister Maggie, and he often ends up babysitting her for Mrs. Stelling, who seems to think Tom is her personal assistant at times.
