Victims of Crimes

Character Analysis

These are the many, many people Moll totally hoses by stealing from them. Some, like the victims of the house fire, are in truly dire straits already when Moll goes and makes things worse. Come on, Moll, stealing from someone whose house is on fire is just kicking people when they're down. Others are fragile members of the upper classes – young ladies and little girls, in most cases – who don't realize their precious belongings are being lifted until it's too late.

Usually these people are innocent and oblivious, because of youth or distraction. In fact most of the time, they really are victims and just end up with the fuzzy end of the lollipop. It's only the last attempted robbery victims who act out of character by being strong, not meek. They stand up for themselves, and it's their strength that means Moll finally is forced to face the consequences of her actions.
