- In his cave, twenty days before the hanging, Jimmi creates night-vision goggles out of colored construction paper.
- As he's making them, he has a flashback to the battlefield in the desert.
- Then he's back to New York. He wishes he hadn't gotten rid of all his drugs.
- He's hungry and going through withdrawal, so he heads to Joe's pad.
- Joe always makes Jimmi breakfast and coffee when he comes around, and this time is no different.
- He asks Jimmi to go with him to the hospital, but Jimmi won't go, and he slips out the door before Joe can even get him more coffee.
