Echo, a character in Ben Jonson's play Cynthia's Revels, sings a song of lament for her dead crush Narcissus. She asks the spring (presumably the one at which Narcissus died), the flowers, woe, grief, and just about everything else under the sun to share in her misery and sing along with her. Then she sings that she could drip and drop like slow-melting snow, because her unrequited love has been turned into a flower, the poor guy.
