Boston College
About Me
Intro
I'm the kind of school that you'll want to bring home to your mother. First off, I'm smart. My SAT average is 2039, need I say more? I'm also funny enough to have attracted the likes of Amy Poehler. Ya know, that lady who's been leading the way in comedy alongside Tina Fey. I keep in shape as well, with five National Championships in hockey, ACC Football, & Basketball. As if you couldn't tell, I'm also ambitious. I frequently make the top ten Business Schools in BusinessWeek. Oh and I'm also really, really humble.
Name
The Eagles. As in the Bald Eagle. As in the mascot for America. Coincidence?
Hometown
Chestnut Hill, MA. (Yeah, I'm not really in Boston. Sorry.)
Birthdate
1863
Body Type
I have 9,100 Undergrads and about 5,000 Graduate Students. I can feel small at times, but you can still meet someone new every day.
Current Living Situation
Maybe you'll get four years of housing. Maybe three, or three and a half. It's all luck-of-the-draw here.
Students live on campus the first two years for sure. Then, some move into Brighton during junior year or they study abroad. Everybody comes back for senior year.
About 40% of freshmen end up on Newton Campus, where they are snuggly tucked away from all of the upperclassmen. Where you end up is randomized, but keep your fingers crossed for Newton.
Relationship Status
I can't believe they made a movie about a fifth-string football player at Notre Dame. When are they making the Flutie movie? Notre Dame, more like Notre…Lame. Oh well, living in South Bend, IN is its own form of penance.
Now that I'm on the subject, it's also lame to B-U…and I'm not just saying that because Boston University's football team is undefeated. Maybe.
Religion
I love Pope Francis. See, he's a Jesuit, I'm Jesuit. He's cool about Catholicism, I'm cool about Catholicism.
My president and a bunch of my teachers are Jesuit priests, but it's not like Sunday School at all. They're not like the nuns your grandfather talks about at the Our Lady of Unyielding Rigidity High School he went to. There's no paddlin' here.
A lot of my students are Catholic and many will go to mass, but if you're not, you won't feel out of place. You'll take a theology class for sure but it could be in any religion.
Politics
I don't really like to talk about it. People make assumptions about my political views because I'm Catholic. I'm really more of a social justice Catholic anyways.
I don't know how I feel about the Church's stance on gays rights and contraception. I'm still working that out for myself.
For a liberal arts school, I've got my conservative ideas, but I get along just fine with my more radical Boston friends like Harvard and Wellesley. You probably won't see me Occupying Wall Street, though I've attended a protest or two in my day.
You should apply to me if...
you want a world-class education and you believe that the Communion wine on Sunday can be the hair of the dog that bit you on Saturday night.
